Pelorus
The distribution chain's complex nature often leaves New Zealand exporters and their international clients in the dark about their goods' status throughout the distribution process.
To solve this problem, we worked with Port Nelson to develop Pelorus. A digital tool that provides exporters and their customers visibility, management, and monitoring of their goods throughout the distribution chain.

To understand the intricacies of the existing distribution chain, and the specific pain points experienced by exporters. We focused in on the wine industry, which constitutes the major portion of exports from Port Nelson for the Pelorus MVP.
Gathering user requirements, we interviewed and observed users at Quay Connect, Spy Valley Winery, Central Express Limited, and Port Nelson’s Container Terminal. The research findings were distilled into user profiles and journeys to help us better understand their unique needs and behaviors.

An agile approach allowed for quick proof of concept prototyping and flexibility in the feature set, thus accommodating real-time changes and even facilitating the inclusion of new industries.
The design phase involved creating low-fidelity prototypes, and user testing to ensure that the final product would be intuitive and valued by users. In development, we utilised API integrations to consolidate data from various different systems, while an end-to-end blockchain foundation ensured secure transactions across the supply chain.

The result is an intuitive system that allows businesses to maintain complete visibility over their goods throughout the supply chain. Users can easily create and manage orders online, a significant improvement over the cumbersome email-driven processes of the past.
Pelorus streamlines the distribution chain by consolidating track and trace data from various systems into a user-friendly tool. It significantly enhances visibility by delivering timely notifications from pick-up to the final destination. This transparency has been a game-changer for both exporters and their international clients.
